I am the worst person to talk about wine, because:
- I don't have enough money for this activity.
- I am not a prodigy for tasting and smelling.
- I don't have any formation for this.
- I don't have the best cups for wine tasting. I bought some cups "Luminarc". They are very good and expensive but don't have the ideal size for wine tasting. They are not enough large.
However, I have an advantage. I am too daring:
5 years ago, I bought 5 bottles of red varietal wine whose brand were "Casillero del Diablo" (historical harvest of 2007); they are Chilean wines of "Concha y Toro". I chose this brand because its wines have very good quality and they aren't too expensive. Then, a bottle cost between 31 to 49 Bs.
... And I started to drink they.
Sometimes I drank only a wine glass for pleasure. Most of time I consumed 2 varieties for session (of the opened bottles). A day, when all my bottles were opened, I drank the 5 varieties at same time.
It is obviously that I did it for curiosity and for self-learning.
You can imagine the orgy of wine that it occurred.
At the end of this happening, I had to dispose a little part of the wine that was oxidized (the bottles had been a lot of time open). I regreted it but it was necesary because I had made a big mistake caused by my naivety. It happens that, not to consume an open bottle at the day is a mortal sin. Bastard French people will have to understand that I live in the Third World and I don't have too much money. But, if I hadn't done it in the way how I did it, I haven't never compared 5 varieties at same time.
I must explain to people that I was very careful for conserving my wine bottles: I bought they in the begin of winter in order to the heat don't fuck them. My little improvised cava had the minimum conditions of humidity, temperature and light, but it didn't have a good sound isolation. I was very careful to move the bottles as least as possible. For removing oxygen from the bottle when it had to be covered, I used mi mouth ( XD ). It was the reason that I couldn't share my wine with friends.
And finally, it was one of the most cool things that I have done. Nowadays I can differentiate without mistakes a Carménère of a Cabernet Sauvignon, or a Merlot of a Syrah, and there's not way that I don't recognize a Pinot Noir to the first tasting (LOL, people that knows of wine know those are not dificult).
That was this way...
That was this way...
